A Guided Watercolor Painting Tour in Croatia
with Kathy Kovala

Kathy is a passionate watercolorist.

A passionate, nurturing artist with innovative teaching techniques is how you describe Kathy Kovala!   Noted as an exceptional teacher, Kathy has the ability to teach watercolors to both the novice and advanced students.  Her passion for the spontaneous action of the medium is unmatched.  Her ability to get the best out of each student adds to her reputation as a highly popular painter and instructor.

As a watercolorist, Kathy started when she took initial classes with instructors Nita Engle and Frank Webb back in 1990.  Hearing comments like “You must have karma – you must have been born to be a watercolorist!” were encouraging. Taking additional classes with some of the top instructors in the United States, such as Diane Maxey, Arleta Pech, Catherine Wilson Smith, Tom Francesconi, Karlyn Holman, Bridget Austin, Claudia Nice, Rose Eden and many others, increased her knowledge about the art form.

Kathy started teaching watercolor in her studio in Rhinelander, Wisconsin and ran her gallery called Finishing Touches for fourteen years.  It was here she gleaned her many skills as a painter and teacher.   Recently moving to Winona, Minnesota, to be closer to her family, she has followed on with her popularity, acquiring many new clients, students and admirers.

Twenty years ago, Kathy began visiting Kauai in the winter months.  After two years, she was urged to start teaching by locals and started out with a week-long class.  She has gone from that one week class to a stay of three months and holds workshops and weekly classes.  Her contacts in Kauai have brought her additional teaching invitations, and national recognition.  Her cards and paintings are featured in many galleries and gift shops on the Garden Island.

Kathy also has a connection in Big Sky Montana, where she vacations with her husband and family in the summer.  She is represented in eight establishments with Big Sky cards and prints, and she also painted nine personalized greeting cards, for Yellowstone Club, an exclusive vacation Mecca in Montana.
